Hue of Marina & Bob

Hue of Marina & Bob

Marina and Bob had a problem. An off-center insert of carpet in their large great room was old and stained.  Furthermore, the room had no logical visual emphasis.  Solution: create ‘center lines’ and symmetry.

Step 1: Infill carpet area with a beautiful, custom tile “rug” anchored by stunning Italian copper corner tiles.

Next up, Furniture: the new angled couches ‘hug’ the existing Italian marble table while allowing a centered, seated view of the fireplace and the new wall-mounted flat screen TV along the room’s new symmetry lines.

A secondhand, re-purposed entertainment center serves as a media stand and fills a niche holding Marina’s recipe book collection and family photos.  One day, we hope to add a built-in bookcase and/or wall sconces!

The eat-in kitchen is now anchored by an iron/glass table accented by beautiful antique chairs that we found in the garage.

Bar stools invite guests to chat with Marina while she cooks up her masterpieces.

The spaces are tied together by the repeated themes of glass, iron, brass, and Italian pottery.

Final touches included symmetric can-lighting on a dimmer switch to address the challenge of lighting the large space.

”Hilary was able to accomplish in a reasonably short amount of time what we had been struggling with for ten years.  She saw our limited wall space in a larger open area, oddly positioned fireplace, rug inset, and other challenges not as the insurmountable design challenges that had left us tired and overwhelmed.  Rolling up her sleeves, she engaged her creative talents all the while assessing our preferences, budget and tolerance for the process. We recommend her very enthusiastically.  She will work hard and creatively to achieve your goals.”
